`Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu must resign` - Kwesi Kwarteng
Spokesperson for Ghanaian politician Kennedy Agyapong, Kwesi Kwarteng, has called for the resignation of Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu, citing the following reasons.
He said, as far back as July 26, 2026, the Old Students’ Association of Obuasi SHTS had written to the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service, its Director-General, the Ashanti Regional Director and other relevant stakeholders regarding allegations of continued sexual exploitation and abuse involving the school’s headmaster.
He added that he is reliably informed that the Ashanti Regional Director personally sought the Director-General’s intervention, but to no avail.
If this account is accurate, then, accountability cannot justifiably end with the removal of only the regional and district directors.
If the government is genuinely committed to addressing the situation, the Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, and the GES Director-General must also step aside pending an independent investigation into how these complaints were handled, who knew what, and why decisive action was delayed for 79 days until Manasseh’s investigative report brought the matter into the public domain.
