Meet Louis Asiedu, the youngest Professor in Ghana

The name Louis Asiedu may not ring a bell in the annals of politics, music, culture among others in Ghanaian folklore, but the young man has craved a name for himself at the educational level.

He goes down in history as the youngest person to attain full professor status in Ghana at the age of 37.

His journey to this level has not come that easy, and here's the path:

■ Professor of Mathematical Statistics at the University of Ghana, Legon.

■ Head of the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science.

■ Achieved Full Professor status at age 37 — youngest Full Professor in Ghana

■ Began early childhood, primary, and junior secondary education at Ebenezer Methodist Preparatory School, Techiman, Bono East.

■ Completed secondary education at St. James Seminary Senior High School, Abesim, Bono region.

■ Obtained BSc in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Ghana in 2010.

■ Earned MPhil in Statistics from the University of Ghana, Legon in 2013.

■ Earned PhD in Mathematical Statistics from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in 2016.

■ Began academic career as Assistant Lecturer at the University of Ghana in February 2014.

■ Redesignated as Lecturer in August 2017.

■ Promoted to Senior Lecturer in September 2018.

■ Promoted to Associate Professor in September 2021.

■ Promoted to Full Professor in September 2024.

■ Research interests include Image Processing, Machine Learning, and Stochastic Processes.

■ Focuses on algorithmic decision-making under uncertainty.

■ Published over 50 peer-reviewed articles in reputable academic journals.

■ Supervised over 8 PhD theses, alongside several MPhil and MSc theses.

■ Provides consultancy services to government ministries and international organisations.

■ Worked with organisations including GIZ, European Union, UKAID, Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, and USAID.

■ Consultant on the USAID Feed the Future Ghana Trade and Investment Activity.

■ Collaborates with institutions such as the Ghana Revenue Authority, Ghana Link, and the Ministry of Trade and Industry.

■ Serves on various boards and committees at the University of Ghana.

■ Highly proficient in advanced programming and analytical software.
