Pink Flamingo Beach Club among several buildings demolished at Laboma beach

The popular Pink Flamingo Beach Club at Laboma Beach in Accra has been demolished as authorities intensify efforts to reclaim the protected Kpeshie Lagoon buffer zone.

The demolition exercise began in the early hours of Sunday, September 13, 2026, with excavators and security personnel deployed to the area.

Several other structures within the designated buffer zone were also pulled down.

The exercise follows a 21-day eviction notice issued on August 7, directing businesses and residents occupying the area to vacate.

Authorities say the affected structures were located within a protected lagoon buffer zone, and their removal forms part of measures to improve water flow, restore waterways and reduce the risk of flooding in Accra.

The demolition has sparked concerns among some business operators and residents, with warnings that thousands of livelihoods could be affected.

There have also been claims that some structures were demolished beyond boundaries previously agreed with affected businesses.

The cleared area is expected to undergo ecological restoration as part of the broader flood-mitigation efforts.
