Senegal to play opening 2027 AFCON qualifier in Mozambique

Senegal has been forced to play their opening 2027 AFCON qualifier in Mozambique due to the unavailable of the Abdoulaye Wade Stadium in Dakar at the moment.

The stadium has been shut down for maintenance works ahead of the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar later this year.

The Stadium is the only approved Stadium in Senegal allowed to host international football matches.

Senegal was supposed to host Mozambique on September 27 in Dakar but the game will now held in Maputo after an agreement was reached by both Federations.

The return fixture that was supposed to take place in Mozambique will now be held in Dakar according to the arrangements.

This is not the first time Senegal has switched fixtures with their opponents in AFCON qualifiers, Senegal did the same with Rwanda during the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.

Meanwhile, the AFCON 2027 qualifiers begin on September 23 with Cameroon playing Comoros, Namibia will face Congo, Tunisia plays Uganda with Libya facing Botswana.

Algeria will host Zambia, Togo plays Burundi, Sudan hosts Ethiopia, Mali plays Cabo Verde, Rwanda will face Liberia, Nigeria will host Madagascar and Tanzania playing Guinea-Bissau among other fixtures.
