Burkina Faso has officially announced the appointment of Abdou Amir as the new head coach of the men's national football team. Amir, who has previously managed the national teams of Comoros and Mauritania, takes on the challenge of qualifying the Stallions for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

A Rigorous Selection Process.

The Burkinabè Football Federation presented the 53-year-old coach on Wednesday, concluding what they described as a “rigorous examination” of candidates to succeed Brama Traoré. Traoré was dismissed in January following the team's underwhelming performance in Morocco, where they were eliminated in the round of 16 by Ivory Coast.

Amir's Tactical Expertise.

Abdou Amir is renowned for his tactical acumen and his ability to build disciplined teams with strong defensive structures. His previous role as coach of Hassania Agadir in Morocco's top division further solidifies his reputation.

During his presentation, Amir emphasized the importance of national pride and commitment: “Wearing the jersey of a national team isn’t an achievement in itself. I know that this last attempt wasn’t a success, but as I said, we’re going to work with the players. I know the players are eager, but I’ll have a different approach with them,” Amir stated. He recognized the need for a supportive approach to guide the current generation of players, who require reassurance and guidance to reach their full potential.

Achievements and Expectations.

Amir's coaching prowess was previously demonstrated when he led Comoros to the knockout stages of the 2021 Africa Cup and secured a successful tournament with Mauritania in Ivory Coast. Burkina Faso's recent history includes reaching the semifinals of the 2021 edition, where they were defeated by Senegal, the eventual champions.
