Police in Tema Manhean have arrested two men for allegedly engaging in open defecation at the beach as authorities intensify efforts to improve sanitation in the area following a viral exposé by the Bustopboys sanitation volunteer group.
The Bustopboys recently visited the Tema fishing community and documented poor sanitary conditions, including fish being dried on the bare ground near open gutters and in unhygienic surroundings.
During the recording, the camera also captured two individuals openly defecating at the beach, sparking widespread public outrage on social media and prompting swift action from local authorities.
Following the viral video, senior police officers, together with the Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), conducted an inspection of the coastal communities to crack down on illegal structures and address unsanitary practices.
During the operation, the two suspects were allegedly caught in the act of openly defecating and were immediately arrested.
The exercise forms part of ongoing efforts by the authorities to restore cleanliness, improve public health, and enforce sanitation regulations across Tema's coastal areas.
