In the hills of Deir el Ahmar in Lebanon’s Bekaa region, the world’s largest rosary is rising across the landscape. Stretching nearly 2,000 feet, the Rosaire du Liban is formed of 59 enormous concrete beads, each measuring roughly 16 by 11 feet.

The project began after a young Lebanese man experienced a spiritual encounter in Medjugorje in 2006.

Work started in 2008 under the guidance of the Lebanese Maronite Order. More than a monumental sculpture, the site is designed as a place of pilgrimage.

The large “Our Father” beads are intended to serve as confessionals, while the “Hail Mary” beads will become shrines dedicated to various saints.

The path culminates at the Cross of the Resurrection, and a nearby church already hosts regular Masses.

Built largely through donations—at a cost of more than $13 million for the concrete alone—the illuminated rosary is visible both from the ground and the air.

In a country marked by years of instability and hardship, the giant beads stand as a bold public sign of faith, inviting pilgrims to walk the mysteries of the Rosary through the life of Christ.
