French international Michael Olise isn’t just a footballer on the pitch — his heritage story is just as incredible as his talent.
The Bayern Munich star, could have plated for four other countries at senior international level.
Olise, had the possibility of representing five different nations, but choose to be with the French, and, it seems to be going the right way.
He has been a mainstay in the French national team since making the decision.
However, Olise, could have represented England - his country of birth and France, through his French-Algerian mother.
The forward, could also have played for Algeria, through his mother’s roots; Nigeria, through his father’s heritage or for Haiti, through his maternal side.
He had five countries to choose from and, have made France his permanent home.
Former France captain and FIFA World Cup winner, Thierry Henry explained why Olise chose France:
“He wanted to play for France. It’s his DREAM.”
Olise represented both England and France at youth level, but when it came to his senior international career, he chose Les Bleus.
But Olise’s big decisions didn’t stop with international football.
When Premier League clubs, including Manchester United, showed interest, he had the option to stay in England.
Instead, Olise backed himself and chose a completely different challenge at German side Bayern Munich.
And he has shown exactly why he was so highly rated.
The flair, vision, creativity, dribbling, passing and composure under pressure — Olise plays like someone who belongs on the biggest stage.
He didn’t just choose his international dream.
