Millions are expected to join a national rally on Saturday to protest against President Donald Trump’s policies, the rising cost of living, and the ongoing war against Iran, according to event organizers. The rally, dubbed “No Kings,” will feature more than 3,100 demonstrations across all fifty states, including a location in an Alaskan city inside the Arctic Circle. This massive turnout is buoyed by a significant wave of suburban support.

Grassroots Movement Gains Momentum.

Organizer Sarah Parker, a national coordinator with the grassroots movement 50501, emphasized the widespread frustration among Americans fueling this movement. Speaking at a No Kings Coalition news conference, Parker noted that nearly 7 million people had previously attended “No Kings” events nationwide. This surge in activism comes in response to the Trump administration's stringent immigration policies and the economic challenges brought on by the war with Iran.

A Suburban Show of Support.

Statistics reveal that two-thirds of the people who have RSVPed for this weekend’s events reside outside major urban centers, marking a 40 percent increase since the first “No Kings” event in June 2025. This change highlights the political shift in suburban areas, driven by increasing racial diversity and educational attainment.

Allison Posner, a suburban mother from Maplewood, New Jersey, shared her perspective with The Associated Press: “This is not some other people’s fight. This is our fight.” Significant numbers of protests are also planned in traditionally Republican states, such as Texas and Florida, reflecting a broadening base of support.

Coalition and Event Organization.

The No Kings Coalition, which includes organizations like 50501, Indivisible, AFT, MoveOn, the ACLU, Public Citizen, and SEIU, is behind the organization of these demonstrations. Texas, Florida, and Ohio each have over 100 events scheduled, with other states like Idaho, Wyoming, and Utah also seeing numerous events.

Leah Greenberg, co-executive director of the Indivisible Project, emphasized the strategic importance of suburban areas: “Voters who decide elections... they are taking to the streets right now and they are furious.”

The Twin Cities Back in Focus.

The flagship event will take place at the Minnesota State Capitol in St. Paul, featuring a star-studded lineup of cultural icons and political leaders. This event is significant given the Twin Cities' history as the epicenter of Operation Metro Surge, the largest immigration enforcement operation in US history. This operation led to intense protests, particularly following the fatal shootings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti by federal agents.

Images of federal agents using pepper spray and tear gas against protesters have raised concerns about the optics of such crackdowns, leading to some withdrawal of federal personnel. The rally’s message is clear: “No kings, no wars, no ICE.”
