Police on Manhunt for Highway Robbers Who Shot One Dead at Ahyiresu

Incident Overview.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has initiated a manhunt for armed robbers who violently attacked passengers along the Ahyiresu-Kwame Dwumor Sreso (KDS) road. The incident occurred in the Nyinahin District on Sunday, 12 April 2026, at approximately 10:30 pm.

Details of the Attack.

Police patrol teams swiftly responded to emergency calls and arrived at the scene where a VIP bus, with registration number AM 9334-20, was found having skidded into a bush. The bus was carrying about thirty football players and officials from Berekum Chelsea, traveling from Samreboi to Berekum. The vehicle veered off the road while trying to evade an assault by six armed men, three of whom were brandishing pump-action guns.

Casualties and Losses.

During the attack, Dominic Frimpong, a footballer, sustained gunshot injuries. He was immediately transported to the Bibiani Government Hospital but tragically succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Another victim, George Owusu Afriyie, aged 52, was robbed of GHS 4,500.00. Investigators have retrieved two spent BB cartridges from the crime scene to aid in their ongoing investigation.

Police Response and Public Assurance

The Regional Police Command has bolstered its presence by deploying additional personnel and Crime Scene experts to the area. The authorities are committed to capturing the suspects and have assured the public that the perpetrators will be apprehended in the shortest possible time.
