Romelu Lukaku international footballer of Congolese origin regrets becoming rich because his wealth divided his family and distanced him from his late father.
The striker has given insight on happenings that strained his relationship with his late father.
“There are times I said, I preferred the poverty we lived in at Wintam, we had nothing, we knew it was just the four of us, we lived well before money came in and destroyed my family.
When I talk about my family, I’m talking about my parents, me and my brother.
I swear. This is something I pray to God about. There aren’t supposed to be people coming between me and my brother, me and my mother.
But it happened with my father, it broke me and I regret it.
It’s a regret I have and will have until the end.
Because there are times when I tell myself that.
And this is a common problem in African families.
Especially for people who still have their dad, if you have problems with your father, try to fix it.
As a reminder Roger Lukaku his father, was also a footballer.
But the son’s success created tensions in the family to the point where he couldn’t attend his father’s funeral in Kinshasa last year because of attempted extortion for money.
Proof that money brings happiness but doesn’t mend broken bonds.
