Senegal is gearing up for the World Cup with a series of friendly matches against Peru and their neighbors, Gambia. The team has largely retained its lineup from the Africa Cup of Nations finals held in Morocco earlier this year. However, there are some exciting new additions to the squad as well.
New Call-Ups
Coach Bouna Papa Thiaw has introduced two new players to the national team:
- Nobel Mendy: The 21-year-old, who plays for Rayo Vallecano in Spain, is versatile enough to play as either a left back or center back.
- Mamadou Diakhon: A promising player from Belgium’s Club Brugge, making his debut in the national squad.
Additionally, Bamba Dieng makes a return to the squad after a two-year absence. Dieng was part of the team that celebrated victory at the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon in 2021 and was also present in Côte d’Ivoire for the 2023 finals.
Notable Exclusions and Inclusions
- Ilay Camara of Anderlecht in Belgium, who had to withdraw from the Cup of Nations due to injury, is not included despite being fit again.
- Assane Diao from Como is included in the squad, adding strength to the forward lineup.
- Cheikh Sabaly is the only player to be dropped from the squad that competed in Morocco. He has transferred from Metz to Vancouver Whitecaps in the Major League Soccer.

Senegal will face Peru at the Stade de France in Paris on Saturday, followed by a match against Gambia in Dakar on March 31.
