Police in Kasungu have arrested a primary school teacher who allegedly forged official documents to make it appear that he had died in an attempt to have his outstanding bank loan cancelled.

According to reports, the teacher allegedly submitted fake death documents to his bank. Believing that he had passed away, the financial institution reportedly sympathised with his family and eventually wrote off the outstanding loan.

However, the unusual scheme allegedly came to light four years later when the teacher returned to the same bank to apply for another loan.

His application reportedly triggered an alert in the bank’s system, which showed that the applicant was already registered as deceased.

The discovery reportedly raised suspicion, leading to police involvement and the teacher’s subsequent arrest.

Kasungu Police spokesperson Miracle Hauli has confirmed the arrest but declined to disclose further details, citing the ongoing investigation.

Police are expected to provide additional information as investigations continue into the alleged forgery and circumstances surrounding the case.
